Surface Pattern Design & Prints by Heather Ferreira
Thanks for stopping by. I design patterns that are inspired by flora, fauna, antiques and science. I love to explore texture, mark-making and mono printing as part of my process. A sumi brush pen and vellum paper are my go-to tools. Most of my patterns start out hand drawn  then I digitally refine them and create a repeat. I tend to work with palettes found in nature or vintage children's books.
Mark making is one my favorite activities to do when I need time and space to just play or warm up my creative process. It's similar to how a singer has to warm up their voice. The imperfect marks are so perfect, bringing me joy from the unexpected results. I simply search outside or around my house for new items to try. These textures and shapes bring depth to my ideas and contrast some of the more graphical elements in my design.
Some of the many little treasures I find on walks through the woods or the beaches of our East coast. I can never have enough.
Highlights from the Lawrenceville School Hutchins Gallery opening that featured over 100 pieces of art from myself and my husband. I featured original fabric designs,  drawings, prints, and professional agency work.
